Women now account for a clear majority of fitness travel - and their growing interest is shaping how the offer is developed. New figures from Apollo Sports show that female travelers are booking more, traveling more on their own and seeking more active experiences.
Women's increased travel shapes the fitness segment
At Apollo Sports, almost seven out of ten bookings are made by women, an increase of 15% compared to last year. In addition, women make up 80% of the participants on the organizer's training trips, with the majority being over 40 years old.
"We see a clear trend where women are not only prioritizing themselves more, but also investing in themselves. They are traveling on their own to a much greater extent - both compared to the past and to men. Among our customers, there are almost twice as many female solo travelers, and the number is steadily increasing year by year," says Martina Krantz, press officer at Apollo.
The development also reflects a broader travel and lifestyle trend. In recent months, several international media have described how women are increasingly choosing independence and freedom in both everyday life and travel - something that is now also clearly visible in the fitness segment.

A growing offer for female travelers
With more female guests, the offer also adapts. In 2025, the number of female guest instructors at Apollo Sports increased by over 30 percent. For 2026, the development continues with more specialized training weeks and travel arrangements adapted to women's demand.
These range from cycling trips and guided ski weeks to freeride camps, yoga retreats and programs for menopausal women. At the same time, more intensive training weeks focusing on strength, cardio and functional training are being reinforced.
"Women lead the way, and we follow. We are increasing both the number of female guest instructors and the number of training trips tailored to women - to give them the opportunity to develop, train on their own terms and experience something new," says Daniel Giray, Head of Sports at Apollo Sports.

Solo travel that creates community
A global survey by Solo Female Travelers shows that freedom, flexibility and the willingness to break routines are the most common drivers of women's solo travel. The study also indicates that women are more likely than men to make new friendships while traveling.
Apollo recognizes this picture. Almost eight out of ten women who sign up for a training trip do so on their own - but rarely stay alone for long. According to the organizer, many continue to travel and train together even after returning home.
"The women traveling with Apollo Sports are not necessarily looking to get away from something, but to find something - new energy, motivation or a space for themselves," says Giray.
