Now Casall, together with the University of Portsmouth, has conducted a unique research study to measure breast movement changes in a sports bra washed 200 times.
Breast tissue has limited inherent support, and excessive movement can cause damage to anatomical breast structures. A breast moves three-dimensionally (up-and-down/front-and-back/side-to-side) between 4-15 cm when running, for example, and a well-functioning sports bra is therefore crucial to provide support and limit breast movement during exercise - which in turn reduces breast pain, discomfort and changes in appearance.
For decades, Casall has developed test-winning models with innovation and sustainability in mind. Now, Casall is pushing the envelope again with the University of Portsmouth, the leading research institute in breast biomechanics, bra science and breast health, by focusing on how long the sports bra maintains its original function.
"Only one previous research study from 2021 has looked at how the function of a sports bra is changed by washing and in it we could find that already after 25 washes, the breast movements increased by about 20% compared to when the bra was new and unwashed. We were therefore very pleasantly surprised to find that there was no statistically significant difference in breast movement for the Casall Iconic Sports Bra after 200 washes", says Brogan Jones, Senior Research Associate at the University of Portsmouth.
The study also tested the difference in performance between fabrics made from virgin and recycled fibers. Again, no difference was observed either before or after 200 washes.
"We have deep expertise in how a sports bra should be constructed to provide maximum support, comfort and freedom of movement but we also know that, just like for training tights, the choice of fabric is extremely important for fit and function. For tights, we already have 5 signature fabrics in very high quality that we know keep the same performance after 200 washes.
