The young entrepreneurs in the Uppsala-based JA company SISU UF want to change and improve how athletes and trainers recover after training and competition. The company has developed and sells a portion-packed drink powder that is mixed into a citrus-flavored recovery drink and is now looking for more retailers.
We interviewed the company's CEO Martina Sandström about the initiative.
Who are the people behind the company?
- We are Felicia Pettersson, David Mattsson, myself(Martina Sandström), Alexander Bergman and Ludvig Dankel and we are all in our last year of the economics program at Lundellska Skolan in Uppsala.
How did you come up with the idea for the company?
All of us in the group are very active and have active friends. Together we discussed the fact that people often feel exhausted after exercising, something we wanted to change. When we realized that this is a challenge in society, we linked it to the idea of the drink powder and niched ourselves to the active target group.
What shortcomings did you see in existing drinks on the market?
- We thought a lot about how much soda and energy drinks are consumed by adolescents and young adults. Everything comes in aluminum cans or plastic bottles and is 90% water, something we all have in the tap at home. So we started thinking about how we could reduce the amount of bottles and cans produced and also the transportation of water. Then came the idea of a beverage powder.

What do your products bring to the market that might be missing?
- The convenience and climate-friendly packaging is what makes us stand out. Not many drinks can fit in your pocket. There are many functional drinks but few portion-packed drink powders, a gap in the market we saw that we wanted to fill.
